TROY LEE DESIGNS A2 - KIT AND EQUIPMENT
Troy Lee Designs. This is a brand that needs no introduction. When thinking helmets and protection, it is the safe place to go. Having the classic D2 fullface, making that amazing name in the mountain bike world. If you ask most people out on the trail, the TLD lid would be the one that they would choose.
The new A2 trail helmet is the successor to the A1. Now this helmet was great, but times change and so have the designs of this helmet.

After a brief moment looking over the new helmet, it is obvious that this is one quality piece of kit. From the pin-point paint job, to special screws holding the peak on. It is clear to see that Troy Lee have made a real effort. When checking the build quality of this new lid, there is no surprise when I say that this is as high as the overall finish. Having aluminium bolts holding a solid peak in place and a more than adiquate durabilty to the paint work.
One of the main differences between the A1 and A2 is the ventilation. Where after a long ride in the A1, things could get a little stuffy. This new shell that the A2 features, has more vents, better padding and a far better look in my eyes. The improvements do not stop with the looks. The A2 is a far better fit, with plenty of padding to make for a comfy feel. This is super important when out for a long pedal, and when taking an impact. If the helmet does not fit correctly, then it will have an adverse affect on your head when things go wrong. The A2 fits like a glove. Just so you know, the A2 takes hits like a champ… trust me.
MIPS is fitted to this new unit too. With the safety aspect that this feature adds, there is no wonder that it is a welcome addition to the helmet. It almost seems like a feature that is a must when designing any head protection.
This helmet may not be cheap. But can you put a price on your head? Troy Lee Designs have really nailed it with the A2 lid, allowing great looks to go hand in hand with great protection. The red pinstripe design, that we had supplied, really looks the part. This item is something that would be recommended by us here as Descend.
